Painting Holidays in Frigiliana

Practice, revive or give birth to your artistic side in a glorious setting

'I haven't lifted a paint brush since I left school' was a familiar phrase uttered by the victims, sorry, participants on previous painting trips. Others quietly concentrated hard, on the way to their first Turner Prize. And at the end of the week everyone, especially the beginners, glowed with pride (or too much winter sun) at what they'd achieved.

Viv: 'Andy's passion for painting and for the places he loves, especially Frigiliana, was an inspiration to us all. '

Josie: 'I can't think of a more attractive place to learn to paint'

Bob: Andy's Handy (H)arty Hints are much better than any academic guide'

A small group, tailor made holiday can often cost the equivalent of a Picasso sketch, but a typical affordable week on a painting holiday will go like this

Day One

Collection or car hire pick up from Malaga Airport, an hour from Frigiliana. Once settled in your accommodation we will provide a walking tour of the village, sharing with you the history of this great place, followed by lunch or evening meal at a typical local restaurant

Day Two and Three

After breakfast a brief discussion about one artistic technique (such as perspective and composition) along with Andy's Handy Hints. After being provided with the media of your choice, individuals or pairs are free to find a suitable spot in the village to practice that particular technique. Andy will wander around offering guidance where needed. We then reconvene for a late lunch and to share your creations. This is the part that most people fear but which is also the most fun. We've even had other restaurant goers take an interest. You then have the opportunity to enjoy one of the many excellent walks around the village before spending the evening as you wish.

Day Four

A trip to El Alahambra, a world heritage site and arguably the finest historic building in Europe.

Days Five and Six

As two and three but with different options including a visit to Nerja and the Maro Caves and a presentation evening featuring some of the least heard of art prizes you will come across.

Day Seven

Vacate accommodation and head for the airport.

Small groups, tailored to your preferences

The group size is limited to eight and the emphasis is on choice. If you'd prefer to go to see La Liga football in Malaga, spend a day skiing in the Sierra Nevada, take a trip to the lost village of El Acebuchal or just spend the day by the pool it's up to you (though please don't all choose to go in the opposite direction). The best  way of enjoying the week would be to take part with a group of friends. The whole week can be tailor made and dates selected to suit the group (a long weekend is also possible).

What does the holiday cost pay for?

Again this can be tailored, but the simplest split is as follows:

Frigiliarte - transfers/car hire, self catering accommodation, six tapas lunches, one evening presentation meal, art materials, coach trip and entrance to the El Alhambra, tuition and accompaniment on trips and walks

You - flights, breakfast and evening meals (apart from one), drinks, any other entrance fees, fuel for hire cars and insurance

We think this split works best because Malaga is one of the lowest cost airports to fly to and you can arrange departures and times to suit your own needs. There are over 30 restaurants in Frigiliana offering from local to international cuisine at prices from 'bargain' to 'English'. We can make suggestions but know that individual tastes and budgets vary.

How much?

As a tailor made holiday the correct answer is ...depends. But based upon a group of eight made up of two sharing, including car hire in the warm months of March and September 2017 it will be around £650.

Organise a group of six or more and you go free!
